The greatest comeback since Lazarus
I sat in my chair, puffing a cigarette, and examined the man sitting across the desk from me. The man who should have been a living legend, now just a broken down piece of meat, a joke for douche bag bloggers who would never in their lives taste the greatness that once dripped from his every pore. His body ravaged by injury, donuts, and tranny love sticks, it would be easy to write him off as burned-out and washed-up, just another athlete whose body had served its purpose, put down like a lame race horse. But I saw the hunger in his eyes, and it wasn’t for the corn dog in his hand: the hunger to set his legacy straight, the hunger for redemption. This man still had a final chapter to write in his story, the conclusion to a remarkable career with only one fitting end, the one honor that had eluded him: Champions League glory. Week 1
By: aman |Sunderland Vs. Sunderland Reserves, July 8th 2009, 7:30 PM I told the team before the game started to go out there and impress me. They failed. I sat and watched these bastards run around for an hour and a half, and one goddamn goal is all they could manage. The defense wasn’t challenged at all, so [...]

Day 1
By: aman |
July 7th, 2009. I step out of my rented BMW, straighten my tie, and study the man waiting there for me. Mr. Eric Black, who will be assisting me with my managerial duties, at least for the time being. Mr. Steve Bruce brought him [...]

Well, it seems like the Arsenal job is no longer on the table. All the better, since my ambition is to be a manager, not a babysitter. Wenger can keep his boys for now.
After being courted by a number of high profile clubs including Liverpool, Valencia, Newcastle, [...]

As BillG so helpfully pointed out in the comments to Daryl’s last post, a person with no life has indeed been found to continue this blog. That would be me. I figured I’d be playing the damn game so much, I might as well write about [...]

Do You Want to Blog About Football Manager 2010?
By: Daryl |
Sadly, I couldn’t find anyone to take over my Newcastle save. What would have become of The Pog, Marquinhos, John Fleck et al, we’ll never know. My best guess is that under my leadership Newcastle would have somehow qualified for World Cup 2018 and then won it. [...]

Letter of Resignation
By: Daryl |
I tried to resign as digital Newcastle manager back in May, but got talked out of it. Since then I’ve tried to make time and keep this blog going, but turns out there just aren’t enough hours in the day.
So… I want to extend my original offer [...]

Help Me Pick a Team to Face Arsenal
By: Daryl |
Big game coming up vs Arsenal at home. We’re third, they’re second (it’s 2012 so Man City have finally spent their way to first place). It’s the 4pm game on Sunday, which means we’ll be on Sky Sports. No pressure then.
Here’s how Arsenal are shaping up:

Five Questions Before We Play WBA
By: Daryl |
After getting some good input before the game against Chelsea, and then getting a good result, I’m looking forward to hearing who everyone thinks should start for digital Newcastle when we travel to West Brom.
For those unfamiliar with how things work here on FM Offside, the new [...]

Midweek Musings
Well, in the BIG NEWS OF THE WEEK - we are now an affiliate of AS Monaco Football Club, Chamions League Finalists and home of the Great Man Himself: Jan Koller.
I've been a touch obsessed with Mr Koller for a while now (thus my affection for Dortmund in the Bundesliga) ...

My First Assignment - A Raid on the RAF.
Firstly I have offered Joel Kiki a contract in line with your wishes. Can't have enough cover in a team as flimsy as mine.
v
So, after your (Dhaw's) useful advice, I feel I'm finally ready to face my first challenge, a 418km away trip to Rodez Aveyron Football, or ...

Julio vs Baptista
26th August, 2009
One day to go. Everything is gearing up for the big day tomorrow when we open our season away to Cagliari. It appears the all-knowing bookies have made us favourites. So the onus is right away on us.
Thought of a couple of good one-liners for the post-match press. depending on the result obviously. A few funnies are fine if you've won. If you lose it's not a good idea.

Tactics, Tactics, Tactics
My 4-4-2 is as described in the player descriptions post.
My theory is that it will turn almost to a 4-4-1-1 when N'Diaye drops off, and with two holding midfielders I should have good solidity. My two key concerns are that the wingers do not give anything coming back, and ...

Training
In other news, the Johan Gallon loan move went ahead - thankfully. I'm paying him €500 per week, but he adds a touch of class to an otherwise weak centre of midfield.
I, as I obsessivley do in my FM saves, have set my training schedules the week before ...

Final Friendly
So, on to HVV (Dutch 2nd tier) and the final friendly, which I drew 1-1, throwing away a 1-0 lead with a silly tactics change with 5 minutes to go. However, was a good run out, and Joel Kiki played a 6.8 match, which was just above the team's average. ...

More Friendlies, More Signings
Hello,
So I have been exploiting my huge wage budget by hitting up a couple of quality free signings.
First, I hit up Gauthier Diafutua, a pacy striker who is French of Congolese descent. He was born in Levallois-Perret, a community in the North-West of Paris. He'll pack a threat from ...

Back to Work
Hello guys! Welcome back! In these days, I had some problems, such as health and time, so I couldn't write. As I wrote in the post before this one, I wanted to stop the blog, but I have changed my mind.
Days: 28 July-5 August.
Currently Managing: Villareal
Status: Preseason, with some transfers finally done.
In-game Ass.Man: Aspiazu.
In-blog Ass.Men: Weston, Sam, Dhaw, Thomas, Stefan, Will, Zizou, Lord Quas, Vlad, Richard, Jorid. (Everyone who will submit a comment about the game will automatically be an ass.man.)
Next game: Friendly against Brescia coming up.

And So It Begins
29th July, 2009.
This is it! The start of my first season as AS ROMA manager. I met the press and discussed my first official game at home to FC Vojvodina with confidence.
Proudly I walked along the touchline and took my place in the dugout, there is no denying that the nerves started to kick in ! What happens if I’m not good enough to be a football manager ? Now was the time to find out. I had a squad, I had my backroom staff, now I needed the first result.

Sorry for not writing in these days..
Days for FM 10 have been coming short, and I was almost taking the decision of leaving the blog, but what made me change my idea was that many of you read and comment. Will write my next post as soon as I can..
