Am I A Better Manager Than Kevin Keegan and Joe Kinnear?
By: Daryl | November 18th, 2008
OK, so after a longish wait for the game to be released digitally via Steam (is it named Steam because it’s so damn slow?) I finally have the game ready to go. And I’ve made my choices.
I’m starting in the Premier League, with a medium large database (hoping my old laptop can handle it) and League Two as the lowest active league. And as suggested by CSD in the comments here, I’m starting my career at Newcastle United. That’s right. I am the new Geordie Messiah. Because who wouldn’t want to work for Mike Ashley?
Here’s what I’m greeted with:
1. I’ve got a two year deal, at £12,250 per week. Not exactly Alex Ferguson money, but enough to buy The Sopranos DVD box-set and not feel guilty.
2. Thanks to the magic of alphabetical order, I start the season in 13th. So I’m already doing better then Kinnear.
3. Mike Ashley’s minimum expectation is that I achieve “a respectable league position”.
4. My minimum expectation is that he sells up and gets lost. I want me some oil money fat man!
5. Transfer budget is £4.3m. Not good. But the fat man’s willing to increase that if I think the team can achieve great things. Hmmm.
6. Michael Owen is injured. Shock. He’ll be fit in two months. And then presumably injured again.
7. Joey Barton is “unavailable.” Which is the polite way of saying he’s behind bars. Not sure what to do with him when he is available.
8. I’m 50k per week under the payroll budget. Now I really am shocked.
OK, any suggestions?

First thing I do is work on my back room staff and training. Thats where you win the games, because a majority of the players in the game can do a respectable job for you if they are trained and coached properly.

Thanks Corey. Did you receive a “key” with Steam, so that you can save games directly to Steam? I was under the impression the game would come with a key, but I don’t seem to have one.

I didnt get one either, all I know is that you have 5 installs. I run Steam off an external drive because it messes with your system so badly, so I save my games direct to the external as well. In the past you got a key when you downloaded games, I assume that has been replaced with your Steam account info?
