Anything For a Buck
By: Daryl | February 2nd, 2009
Did anyone else find it odd that Football Manager 2009 featured no Premier League club logos or player faces?
Well, now we know why. And in hindsight it’s depressingly predictable…
That’s right, there’s now an “Arsenal edition” of FM09, featuring the team logo and player’s faces. So Premier League clubs have licensed their player’s faces (even Nicklas Bendtner’s) to sell them back to you via special editions of FM09. Even though you probably already own the game.
We know Premier League teams are a bit precious about their licensing (because if it’s not an official Man Utd dog bowl then Rover will starve), so this shouldn’t come as a huge surprise. It’s just one more step down the path the Prem becoming the NFL, and the saddest thing about it is that the FM people complied.
Football streams and YouTube vids are already under attack from the Prem’s lawyers, so I say download your FM09 facepacks now before they become contraband.

I was always curious why you never had any of the EPL logos on your screenshot? Do I suspect it wouldn’t go down well with the EPL lawyers?

Thanks for the heads up and the link. Never really cared about them but since they are soon going to be outlawed to the point were you can’t even think about downloading them without getting fined, I’ll get them now.

Wayne, not a conscious decision on my part. Just that my game doesn’t have any logos.
I’ve actually downloaded a pack with faces and logos but haven’t got around to installing it.

Daryl,
The best thing about FM is the ability to customize almost anything. Since I bought the game a couple of weeks ago, I have downloaded logo packs, face packs, updated 3D kits, skins, and the coolest of all are the adboards out there. It is awesome to watch in 3D and see real adboards along the sidelines. Plus, you can customize what boards you want to see at each home ground. Seeing the AIG, Audi, and Nike boards makes me feel like I’m at Old Trafford.
