Do You Want To Take Over My Newcastle Team?

By: Daryl | May 21st, 2009

I’ve been struggling to find time to keep my Newcastle game going. Hence the lack of recent updates. If this happened in the real world, I’d definitely be fired and replaced. And maybe that’s how it should work on FM Offsde.

So… if anyone out there is

1. Interested in taking over my Newcastle game, and
2. Capable of maintaining this blog

Then I’ll happily put my save game on a little flash drive and post it to you. Anywhere in the world.

If you’re interested, please send an email to daryl[at]theoffside[dot]com with “Why Aye Man” in the subject line.

Sorry to hear that Daryl. It was your writing that really got me excited to buy this game and eventually waste many potential hours of sleep on it.

    Another one bites the dust…

    Newcastle is going down indeed.

If there are no takers then I’ll keep going. But there aren’t enough hours in the day to play FM right now, so I thought someone else might do a better job.

… are already many fm blogs, but only a few that are well written. Yours and Brian Phillips’ top the list.

If you feel that fm is getting in the way of normal offside blogging, I guess I could understand.

I’m sorry that my spastic reaction to this bad news has resulted in a double post.

I don’t think you should pass it on. If you need some time off then just come back to the save after a while, I’m sure people will understand. It wouldn’t be the same with someone else doing it, all you’d end up with is someone ruining the save and/or blog.

Out of interest, do you have a job other than webmaster?

I agree with Martin, take a break for a bit. I wanted to congratulate you on doing the opposite of Newcastle in real life.

Yes, when they appointed Alan Shearer my first thoughts were, “That’s no good. What about Daryl Grove?”

if there is no virtual newcastle under daryl, then there is no need for a virtual newcastle. plus it would be unfair for someone else to finish up the season as premier league champions when you are the one who got the team there.

Wow. Thanks for all the kind words. Seems maybe I’ve been a bit hasty in trying to quit.

How about if instead of my passing the game to someone else, we change things up a bit and make it more of a joint effort? Sort of like myfootballclub.co.uk where everyone can vote on decisions, except no one has to pay £35 to join.

    Thoughts?

I was also thinking we could do a lot of the voting in comment form rather than PollDaddy form, to encourage debate and keep things lively.

Yeah, sort of. But don’t my tell current assistant Neil Sullivan. He’ll be gutted.

And once a decision is voted on, I’d be following that decision. So it would be properly democratic.

I think its a good idea. It certainly wouldnt be the same with someone else writing the blog, or changing the team to fit their own ideas. I only read two FM blogs, yours and Tom’s Arsenal one (trying to make a full english team).

I like this management by democracy idea as well. Perhaps comments can be used in 2 ways, first to vote on Daryl’s proposed ideas, and second to suggest topics to be voted on (ie change of formation).

Drabik, out of interest why don’t you read the Santa Eulalia LLM Blog? (Drabik and others) Is there anything I can do to make it more readable/fun?

I would find it too difficult to read more than two blogs, remembering which players had transferred to which team. Etc etc etc. So no offense, I just simply read the first two that looked at.

No problems at all, any feedback is good. I’m starting to think that this might take more work from Daryl, rather than less, which defeats the original purpose.

It would take more work in the sense he has to see everyones opinions.. But he wouldn’t spend as much time on FM as most of the things have to go through everyone else.. It will probaly end up roughly the same amount of time, though.
