Double Man Marking
By: Daryl | December 21st, 2008

Progress: 13th in Prem after three games
The upside of getting mangled by Caley Thistle was that all my first teamers (except the injured Jonas) were fit to face Man Utd. And I had a plan to deal with Cristiano Ronaldo. A plan I call double lock down.
CR7 played on the right so I had both my left sided players – left back Jose Enrique and left winger Charles N’Zogbia – man-marking him. Enrique marked him tight, and N’Zogbia just marked him. At the very least it made for some good comedy, watching two men chase Ronaldo up and down the right flank of St. James’ Park.
But he still scored.
In the first minute, Michael Carrick played a great ball into the channel. C-Ron had too much pace for either Enrique or N’Zogbia, beat them both to the ball and ran through to score.
Here’s the thing:
Ronaldo – pace 18, acceleration 19
Enrique – pace 16, acceleration 17
N’Zogbia – pace 15, acceleration 14
He was just too fast for either of them. If only double man marking meant the two defenders could combine their pace, then Ronaldo would have had no chance against mega-N’Zorique with his pace of 31 and acceleration of 31. But sadly no.
However, I’m still putting the man-marking experiment down as a success, because that goal aside Ronaldo wasn’t too influential.
Jose Enrique even found time to ignore my instruction not to make any forward runs, and dribbled down the left wing to cross in for Pavel Pogrebnyak to head home an equalizer.
So another 1-1 draw, my third in a row to start the season. Three good results in a way, but my league position of 13th isn’t too impressive.
Small bit of transfer news in my quest to add some experience to my worryingly young squad. Finally had a loan bid for Belletti accepted, but the ungrateful so and so said no. Boo. But I did manage to get 31 year old Jonathan Zebina on loan from Juve for gratis. He’s not going to set the Prem alight, but does give me an old head in the squad, as well as an extra right back should anything happen to Habib Beye.

Loan some good STs. Young ones, that clubs don’t use but want to get exp.
Higuain from Real is very very good.
Bojan from Barcelona needs playing time.
ect.
Others you can buy are:
Nilmar: Good young ST.
Thiago Silva: Great young defender.
Keirrison: Brazilian super talented ST.
Or get out of favor players like:
Adriano, Crespo, Cruz.Posted from

Yeah, i second Keirrison. Been scouting him for a season and he was on FIRE in Brazil. Only 20 years old too. Purchased him and he’s doing pretty well settling in.
I’d call a draw with any of the big four a success as well, so I wouldn’t get too down about being 13th especially since it’s still the beginning of the season.Posted from

Also, i don’t know how much he’s worth in your game, in the beginning of mine he was somewhat cheap, Yury Zhirkov is a SPECTACULAR left sided player. Plays WBL/ML/AML. Has pace of 19 and acceleration of 16 and the rest of his attributes are awesome. He’s 25 years old and one of my star players. I bought him in the very beginning of last year and he’s developed since then and gone up in value greatly and still hasn’t even hit his peak.

Dude, Zhirkov costs like 25 million!

Now he does for me too, but in the very beginning he was pretty cheap, under 10 for sure.

i love this blog daryl, and know this has nothing to do with this post, but there are guys in the game who are colored light grey, and they don’t have a transfer fee attached to them, and i was wondering, is it possible that i could sign any of them?

Thanks Mustafa,
The answer is sadly no, you can’t sign those players. They exist just to fill the gaps in a squad that doesn’t have enough players (eg, the Norway U-19 squad).

Great blog. I started a season with Aston Villa, 2 wins 2 losses and a draw… its a tough game for sure!

I am so glad the new patch 9.2.0 is out !!
Make sure you update it and watch your strikers banging goals when they are meant to. The first update the striker would miss even an open goal but the new patch improves a lot of things and the match engine has improved a gr8 deal as well.Happy Gaming !!
Another update out in Feb , till then 9.2.0 it is.
