Hallo..
By: Daryl | November 17th, 2008
…my name’s Daryl and I’m a Football Manager addict. I started using in 1998 (back when it was called Champ). I kicked the habit after Football Manager 2007 and am proud to say I didn’t even touch Football Manager 2008.
But then I saw the 3D game engine on Football Manager 2009 (above) and couldn’t resist. So I broke down and bought it. Actually I downloaded it via the Football Manager website and it’s on my desktop right now. Unfortunately, I’m in the US and the game isn’t released in North America until tomorrow morning, so it won’t “activate” until then. Trying my best to be patient.
Here’s the plan: I’m going to share my progress on Football Manager 2009 with Offside readers here on this blog by posting regular updates of how I’m doing, for better or worse. Hopefully this blog’s going to be a little bit interactive. I’ll take feedback and advice from the comments and maybe do polls about who to sign, which jobs to take, whether to instruct my players to man-mark Joey Barton and tackle him extra hard. That kind of thing. It should be a bit like the Ebbsfleet United experiment, except I definitely won’t be charging anyone £35 a year.
There’s still some design work to come on this blog, so hopefully that will happen in the near future. In the meantime, let’s get started.
I want to start somewhere in the English leagues since that’s what I’m most familiar with. I won’t be using any online lists of “bargains” or “wonderkids”. At least not until things start going badly. So, assuming I’ll have the game up and running by tomorrow morning, any suggestions about which club I should start my (imaginary) career at?

I’m actually very excited about this game even though I have never played any of the games in the series. I’ve played a few of the FIFA games and I came to the conclusion that I enjoyed the managing aspect of the game a lot more than the gameplay so I’m giving this game a chance.

I’m still being told that it’s “unreleased”.

Yeah, cheers CSD. I like the idea of managing Newcastle. If it ever gets un-unreleased then that looks like the job to take.

Thanks Daryl. I hate Steam and I dont know why the game was distributed through it, I use to have it to play Counterstrike when I was 13, that was 8 years ago! The program hasnt changed much and its still a fumbling bumbling hunk of garbage.

I downloaded the demo and played it all day today. I blame you, Daryl. For introducing me to it. And it’s not even the full version…
