Help Me Pick a Team to Face Chelsea
By: Daryl | July 6th, 2009
Apologies for the hiatus folks. I was distracted by the Confederations Cup recently, but now that’s over we can get back to work with Newcastle.
Must confess, I was a little disappointed with the response on the last post. If we’re going to go ahead with this co-managing thing, I need a bit more input from everyone via the comments.
Seems that maybe part of the problem was the length of that last post. So rather than beating around the bush (pictured) I’ll get straight to it. After the jump of course…
Here’s the situation. We just lost 2-0 to Portsmouth in the Prem because their three man central midfield outnumbered my diamondish 4-1-2-1-2 (which had previously been pretty successful). Now we play Chelsea at home, and so the two big questions are:
1. Which formation? 4-1-2-1-2 or 4-4-2? We got it wrong vs Portsmouth, as they outnumbered us in midfield. So what should we do vs Chelsea? This is an important decision in my opinion.
2. Who starts up front vs Chelsea? We now have Pog, Lewandowski, Laurito and Marquinhos available. Marquinhos could play wide right (and has had more success there than up front) but someone still has to miss out. Who should it be?
The two responses so far have been from t’OM
Lop sided formation… nah, keep that for the lower leagues of Spain.
1)I’d play a 4-1-2-1-2. With Lampard and Deco getting forwards (and not so great coming back) you’re unlikely to be so overwhelmed in the middle of the park, and there is a fantastic opportunity for Arshavin (get me the tank) to exploit a lot of space. I’d withdraw my wingers slighty to give Arshavin more space ‘around the hole’ (tank).
2) Pog and Marquinhos
Good luck.
and from Benjamin:
go with 4-1-2-1-2. your DMC will break up their attack through the middle and your AMC will be enough to break their defence. shouldnt get any problems in midfield. doubt you’ll be overrun over there.
also, you might wanna try laurito. he is a very consistent striker will can score goals just about every match. partner him with either the pog or lewandowski. both should do well.
marquinhos on right with arshavin on left and diego through the centre. thats quite a scary thought if you think about it

Any more input on these two questions before I send our boys out to face Chelsea?

i think chelsea will continue playing a 433 unless they changed alot.
what is the standard formation? i find that playing a completely different formation to what you normally play generally isnt too effective.
if its 41212 it could work but you have a very open midfield, perhaps going for the counter attack might be smart. I would perhaps play what benjamin suggested with a pacy midfield and two strikers up front. Play the pog and the striker with the best passing, first touch and finishing in the other striker position.Posted from

I like Benjamin’s way of thinking.

I’m sorry daryl, but when I give advice than I’ll be responsible when my advice fails miserably so I suppose I’ll agree with benjamin as well

ps. that bush reminds me of monty python’s “how not to be seen”, lol. “however, he has chosen a very obvious piece of cover…”

I’ll go with Benjamin.
If you do find yourself being overrun in midfield then play the AMC more defensively (set his closing down slider closer to the whole pitch). He’ll get tired but you’ll be winning balls a lot further up the pitch.

Glad that we have some agreement around Benjamin’s answers.
However… one of Benjamin’s suggestions was to partner Laurito with “either Pog or Lewandowski”.
Anyone brave enough to be more specific?

play a defensive and counterattacking 4-4-2…..you may not think it but miguel veloso and ignacio camacho will hold down the center of midfield for you…..and when lampard and deco make they forward runs which they will likely do you will be able counterattack em like crazy…..
your wingers should be arshavin and marquinhos (you may wanna think about using diego on the wing…..even for a day)……play the all mighty pog and laurito up topPosted from

play a 4-1-3-2 formation.Play a direct style of football and mark the central midfielders of chelsea. Also mark the strikers and order your defenders to tackle them hard and to put them on the weaker foot.

Went with the majority (4-1-2-1-2, Pog and Laurito up front) and played the game. Will get a post up with the result by tomorrow morning.

Hi pleasant post. I think these leads might be functional excessively. Now the respectable pick up describes are the ones that lighter the woman. Straight Off several of the lines might just be in all genuine fun to help discover the ice. That is solid and it can at long last lead to finishing up in bed with her at the end of the night. Heck what man doesn’t want that, but knowing what to say and how to pull it off can take a bit of employ. A primary pick up note will have you in the door but from there you have to be reassured enough to hold the conversation working.

Hi respectable post. I suppose these angles might be useable also. Now the good pick up describes are the ones that lighter the woman. Now one of the lines might just be in all genuine fun to help discover the ice. That is good and it can in the end lead to finishing in make love with her at the end of the night. Heck what man doesn’t want that, but familiar what to read and how to pull it off can need a bit of practice. A main pick up line will have you in the door but from there you have to be assured sufficient to hold the conversation running.
