I’m Not the Only One
By: Daryl | December 2nd, 2008
So turns out I’m not the only Football Manager 2009 addict who’s sharing their progress in public. Brian over at Run of Play (one of my favourite footy blogs) recently held a vote asking readers to nominate which team he should manage. He deliberately narrowed it down to four “difficult” teams:
Athletic Bilbao (Basque players only)
Pro Vercelli (former Serie A champions now in Serie C)
Queen’s Park (Scottish Second Division)
Afyonkarahisarspor (”also rans in the depths of the Turkish league system)
And the recently announced winner is… Pro Vercelli.
So good luck to Brian and his new team, I’ll be checking in pretty regularly and linking to Brian’s progress from Serie C to B to A. Hopefully anyway.
Another good blog I found was The True Football Manager, who’s currently battling away at Hull, but sadly stuck at the bottom of the Prem. My heart goes out to them. Interestingly, the Newcastle in that game are doing better than my Newcastle as they’re currently fourth.
True Football Manager also has some great articles on things like free transfers when you start the game, a couple of whom I picked up (though Sebastian Abreu sadly isn’t doing much for me.)
I much prefer blogs to reading forums that recommend players, because it’s a much more personal experience and is a lot less like cheating. Part of the fun is finding these players for yourself, or sharing in someone else’s excitement when they find a player.
Does anyone know of any other blogs out there chronicling games of Football Manager 2009? If so, please share in the comments.

It’s Pro Vercelli.

Thanks Lorenzo, been corrected.

Hi
new Football Manager addict here… question about the player search function: I am managing a french club (Nantes) and when searching for players with no transfer fee, I can’t seem to get Abreu to come up in the search results. Any ideas what might be causing this? I already have the max number of foreign players registered but surely that wouldn’t be the cause? (I have a large database set).
Thanks

Sounds like you might need to search for players whose “contract status” is “unattached”, rather than players who’s transfer value is “free”.

Thanks Daryl, I’ll give it a try.

Also, if “unattached” doesn’t work, you could try contract status “expired”.
Or, even better, just go to player search and enter the word “Abreu” in the search box.

Interesting links, I’ll be sure to check out some of those blogs. I’m really interested in the Pro Vercelli blog!
Just beat Chelsea 4-1 in the league cup QF’s as well. A Robinho brace (finally getting somewhere with him) 10′, 42′
Pablo Zabaleta – 22′
Stephen Ireland – 78′

I’m managing Arsenal. Newcastle, in my league, are 19th. I beat them 5 nothing. Weird.
