Saviola Out. But Who’s Coming in?
By: Daryl | February 12th, 2009First the good news. I managed to sell Javier Saviola to Birmingham City for £3m. And not until after he’d left did I think up the nickname Chaviola. Ah well. Good luck to both of them in their battle against relegation.
Selling the little Argentine also took £51k per week off my wage budget, allowing me to rebalance the budget (love that feature) and have £12.5m in January spending money.
More good news: After a bit of haggling, Sampdoria have agreed to sell me their big striker Salvatore Foti who as mentioned yesterday, is my main target. I offered £8m, then £10m… they wanted £14m but eventually said yes to £12m. Deal.
Now the bad news: Foti appears to be a Big Time Charlie.
The plan was to sign this 22 year old and have him share lone striker duties with The Pog, plus occasional appearances on the left wing. Both are big men, ideal target men, and Foti is noticeably quicker. I was looking forward to seeing them battle it our for a first team spot.
But Foti wants £75gees a week, which would make him my top earner) and wants to be a “key player”. I’ve offered £60,000 and “important first team player”, but the lad’s not interested.

So… dilemma time.
I’m happy to pay £12m for this kid, but not so keen on making him a key player/top earner. The Pog was upset when I overlooked him for the captaincy, so can only imagine what signing another striker and paying them more than double his wages would do.
On the other hand… Foti’s stats are better than The Pog’s (he’s taller and quicker), so maybe it’s time for an upgrade? On the other other hand, the Toon Army heart The Pog:

The third thing muddying the water here is Diego, ex of Werder Bremen. The Brazilian attacking mid tore up the Bundesliga in 2009/10 (33 games, 15 goals, 14 assists, 7.78 average rating) and Man City paid £12m for him in the summer. But he still hasn’t played for Citeh (he’s not injured and it’s now January) and is listed as a “backup to the first team”. I’m tempted to try and swoop in and get him off City at a knockdown price (bit like I did with Arshavin) and just leave Foti where he is.
Obviously this wouldn’t solve my striker problem, but the idea of signing Diego on the cheap and then watching him take revenge on Man City is pretty hard to resist.

God Damn. He needs 75k ?
Must b sleeping with Cassano off late.Did u try to stick with 60k but add goal scoring bonus , pay hike , relegation clause ?
At times sticking with ur initial salary and just playing around with additional fee’s makes them happy and they accept it.
Give it a shot.Posted from

also try keeping the “signing on fee” as minimum as possible .. saves a lot of money .. and increase the equivalent on the salary.. works most times for me.. save 1M on signing on , you can give 7K extra salary in a 3 year deal

Daryl, Have you tried the “Player Interaction” options with Foti ??
Also what does your scout say about Foti’s salary, if he says 75K is needed, then you might have to part with it if you need him.usually the scouts are very accurate.
And go for Diego for sure.Posted from

Sethu,
Yes, have tried chatting him up. I “admired his talents” and got a lukewarm response (he accepts praise but prefers it from his own manager) and then told press i planned on siging him and he said he’d be interested.
He’s definitely interested enough to sign, I just don’t want him signing as a key player and upsetting the good thing I currently have going with The Pog.
Has anyone signed Diego in the Premier League before?

can anyone help me? i had a nice game going on the demo and after i got the actual game its been awful. how much do you people usually have to pay to get balotelli? in the demo i (Juve) got him for 23mil, now they wont settle for less that 65mil. also, other people i always buy are not willing to sell at all, like camacho who before i could get for 14mil, and rossi 16mil. why can i not sign anyone for under 20mil in this game????? is there some kind of patch that fixes this, or am i really that bad? its like everybody is boycotting me, why is it so different from the demo?

Hahaha, Chaviola is comic genius! Big shame you didn’t think of it sooner.
As for Foti… I really don’t think you should break the bank and sign him. Pog is no slouch and despite his good stats, Foti is still a gamble. I still suggest you find a player that will push for a first team place, not demand one.

12 mill for a back up for the pog is pretty insane money. Maybe try for di santo he usually never gets game time in my games and he aint that bad a targetman striker, just scout him first. Then there is the beast oscar cardozo who has technical abilites that scream monster but his shit positioning and pace means he ends up being average.
Since you are pretty far into the game there should be some decent regens coming through. So start scouting for them. Another option is to do a search for similar players to the pog.Posted from

ok daryl i know this probably isnt the place for this but…
i just started playing FM and im at the stage where i know what i am doing but at teh same time i have no idea what i am doing. my players get hurt every time a blade of trips them. i have had games where i use all subs and play a man down because my players are getting hurt so frequently. i toned down training, but is there somethign i am missing? like a dont get hurt tactic or an apply band aid and suck it up player interaction?Posted from

“my players get hurt every time a blade of trips them.”
There was actually an article about this somewhere thrown amongst actual footy news, which I suppose means it’s a big deal. Apparently the amount of injuries in the game is a glitch and they’ll be fixed in a patch.

I know this was a problem in the demo. Then I got a patch and it went away. I know the full version has a patch available, so maybe you need to get that.

Try to scout Keirrison. He is a fast, young, talented striker in Brazil. If you can get him for 10 million that would be great.

Angel Di Maria (Benfica) could solve your problems up front. He is naturally a left winger but has pretty solid finishing and positioning/off ball ability. He’s cheaper than Foti to acquire and considerably cheaper per week. He would need some training to play up front naturally but he may be worth a shot.

Keirrison is available for about 2mil and I know Di Maria is a tidy little player, but neither of them have any threat in the air.
The reason I’m so keen on Foti is that he fits in perfectly with my 4-2-3-1 system.

I got Diego for 16 M and played him behind Rossi in a free role. The result was an unqualified success. Both hit 20 goals a season mark and catapulted Man C to 3rd in the prem. There was a time when he was my go to man that season, banging goals left and right. Was very good.
And in my game, Berba was available for just 650 K (cheap considering he is from “rival” team)around the period you are in now.The guy has the best stats for a striker.Check him too.

Weston…you can actually load up your savegame from the demo in the full game. As far as transfers go, prices will depend on a lot of factors. If there is a club rivalry or the manager dislikes you, prices will be higher. If the player has several years left on their contract it is also difficult to sign them. Try looking at players with 1 or 2 years left. Also specific players ie Balotelli don’t always have the same potential from game-to-game, so it could be that the game you signed him for 20 million he had a lower potential to your new game. So you can play the game again and a completely different set of players will fulfill their potential.
As far as the players you have mentioned, in my game Rossi is the only one to have moved – he went for £9.25 million in summer 09 to FC Bayern. Timing is everything!Hope that helps.

Glad to see my skjelbred reccommendation is paying off for you. I would reccomend you leave foti until end of the season go for diego at a knockdown he’s got bags of quality twice as good as arshavin mate.
Closest thing to kaka newcastle will ever sign. Also take a look at a plyer called Tarta. Brazillian playmaker who you can get fairly cheap, young and comes good very quickly. Worth the money for either. Foti is a summer buy if you ask me.Posted from

i cant find anybody named tarta anywhere, did you select “load all players from a country” or something? i usually dont bother with that except for whichever country i manage in, (usually italy) although i cant find a lot of playera even with it on larger database.

btw, i fixed my first problem, i was on some different database or something and switched it to a lower version when i started a new game and its been better, although its still weird…

Sorry, i just stumbled across this site while looking for advice but i was wondering how much you paid for arshavin.

curious,
Arshavin cost me £5.75m

arshavin is the beast man. I got him to Man C in the first season and played him on the simple RM…he bagged in important goals just like C Ronaldo did in real life in 07/08 season. He is good, sign him if you can.
