The Special One Beat Me at Mind Games and All I Got Was This Lousy Blog Post
By: Daryl | April 24th, 2009
You may recall that Jose Mourinho hurt my feelings (cue violin music) before our first encounter by telling the press he had no opinion of me. He then made it worse by beating us 2-1 in front of the Toon Army on our big Champions League group stage debut.
I was still smarting about that going into the return game at the San Siro. We’re already qualified from Group D (second place guaranteed) but could replace Inter at the top of the group with a win at the San Siro.
More importantly, I planned to teach the Special One to remember my name by giving his team a damn good thrashing.
What I should have done is gone a bit more conservative and tactical.
What I actually did was send my poor brave black and white stripey boys out in the usual 4-1-2-1-2 attacking formation. Last time we had Belletti as the DM, this time Ignacio Camacho was fit and I thought his presence would make a difference. It didn’t.
vs Inter (away)
CL Group D, Matchday 5
I’d argue that man for man we’re more or less as good as Inter. But tactically we have no chance. Their three centre mids just bossed the midfield. Camacho’s good, but he’s not three men good.
Balotelli and Ibrahimovic did the damage with goals in the 11th and 33rd, and all we managed was one lousy shot on target from John Fleck. The Pog’s shots to shots on target ration was zero percent.
Result: L 2-0
So Jose probably won’t remember me. Unless he remembers me as “that man I beat twice in Champions League”. On the upside, second place is nailed on and I can rotate a bit for the final game against Anderlecht without worrying about the result (although £475,000 for the win makes it at least worth trying).
Next up: We visit a surprisingly decent Derby County (14th in Prem) where I’ll be reacquainted with half of my old team: Danny Guthrie, Daniel Sturridge and Shola Ameobi all now call themselves Rams.

Yo Daryl,is Marquinhos the guy from palmerias or what?If so then why are you playing him in the am r position he is more effective in the striker role.As I have commented on the previous post he has been great for me he has 25 goals now in all competitions.

sammilo, yes it’s the same Marquinhos.
I’ve played him as a striker many times since that’s his natural position, but he just didn’t deliver.
Might just be because he’s young. But the plan for now is to play him where he’s most effective, which has been either as a right winger or an attacking mid.
Hopefully as he gets more mature he can step up and play striker.
