Too Easy
By: Daryl | April 30th, 2009
I thought being King of the North East would be incredible.
But it’s actually getting quite dull.
After seeing off Middlesbrough with a 3-0 win recently I was hoping that maybe Sunderland would put up a fight in the Tyne-Wear derby at St. James’.
Yes the Mackems are rubbish, but isn’t form supposed to go out the window on derby day? And just how badly do I have to beat Messrs Southgate and Keane before they get sacked?
vs Sunderland (home)
The Pog was off the boil a little, so I decided to take sammilo’s advice from the commentsand give Marquinhos another go as a striker.
The result was a goal from the Brazilian after just six minutes. Nice one sammilo.
Nothing too fancy, just a perfect finish at the far post from a John Fleck cross. Exactly the sort of thing I didn’t think he was capable of.
Laurito got the second by collecting an Arshavin pass with his back to goal and ignoring Danny Simpson’s feeble attempt at marking to turn and score our second in the 12th minute. Game over already.
If you’re wondering who Danny Simpson is, he’s yet another Man Utd reject that Roy Keane decided to sign for Sunderland (in the real world he’s still with Utd, but currently on loan to Blackburn).
The Mackems got precisely zero shots on target and we finally made it 3-0 in the 64th, with some great passig between Jonas and Arshavin. All three goals below, digital Roy Keane look away now:
Good stats all around, especially from my five attackers. Only disappointment was The Pog and Diego both failing to make an impact off the bench:
Result: W 3-0, but too easy to be any fun.
Let’s hope either Sunderland or ‘Boro get their sh*t together soon, because these North-East derbies need some life in them.
Next up, two theoretically easy games. Anderlecht come to St. James’ for the meaningless final Champions League group game. I’m second and through and they’re third and demoted to the Europa League (I think) and that’s not about to change. So I’ll likely give some second stringers a run-out and keep everyone happy. Can’t wait to see who I draw in the CL knockout rounds though. And by that I mean: Fingers crossed for someone easy.
After that we go away to Leeds United, who are miraculously back in the Prem. Not so miraculously they’re also the worst team in it. Leeds are currently rock bottom, just one place below Sunderland.

George, they have a purple away kit.

I think George’s question is why you’re in your away kit at St James’ park?
Daryl: what was the fans’ reaction to the win? Is it worth trying a new formation in the CL and testing its viability? Something really attacking (like a 3-4-1-2) which you might be able to revert to when chasing a result in more meaningful games. Giving you an option which isn’t just 4-2-4.
