What Would You Like to See in Football Manager 2010?
By: Daryl | May 11th, 2009
No recent progress on my Newcastle game (and possible (?) title challenge) but I’ve found myself thinking about Football Manager 2010 a lot lately.
It’s mostly Vitaliy Mokosiy’s and Stephen Darwin’s fault, as they respectively wrote an Football Manager 2010 Features we Expect on TFM and an FM2010 Wishlist over on SoccerLens recently and got me thinking about the next edition of this game we all know have unhealthy addictive relationships with love.
No word on a release date for FM2010 yet. Things are so bad that if you Google (it’s a verb now) “Football Manager 2010″ you stand a very good chance of getting RickRolled by this. But I think we can assume it’s going to be roughly October/November of this year, as that’s the usual pattern.
There are a four quick things I’d like to see on FM2010:
- Make press conferences less predictable (or ditching them altogether). The current number of possible questions and possible answers need to be increased x10 at least.
- Ability to cancel a planned substitution (when something big happens while waiting for sub to come on). For example, you’ve sent instructions to replace one of your strikers with a midfielder, but then your other striker gets red carded. A simple “confirm sub? – yes/no” option should fix that.
- Improvements to 3D match engine. I’ll be honest, I love the 3D match engine. Massively impressed with it. And I’m excited by the fact that it’s only the first incarnation. In the future I could see maybe a moving, customizable camera and the option for close ups so you can get a better view of tackles etcetera.
- Less predictable player careers. In some ways I like the idea that you can buy certain players knowing they’ll develop into superstars. It gives you confidence in your team. But it’s also unrealistic. How many promising careers have disappointed in real life? (I’m thinking John Ebbrell and John Curtis here). Success on FM might be more rewarding if things were less certain.
If FM2010 contained just those smallish changes, I’d be a very happy man. What would you like to see?

You can create players, in the FM editor.
Anyway, i wanna be able to create a super league in the editor that doesn’t crash because the access is out of bounds or whatever. I understand that it’d need the same number of teams i.e. 20 in the prem but why can’t i mix them up a bit, have Real Madrid, Barcelona, LA Galaxy, Man United, Santos, Boca, Crystal Palace all in the same division. That’d be amazing, a way for the editor to allow this to happen without crashing.
Also, has been mentioned before, but stadium developement would be cool. Actually seeing the stadium, i think FIFA Manager a few years back did this, you could choose how deep the rows of seats where per tier and how many VIP boxes to put in ect, the colour of the seats.
Should also be able to get players out of retirement for coaching roles. not just dissappear altogether. How about charity matches and testimonals. World XI v Euro XI or whatever.

what i think their should be on FM 2010:
- should be able to design your own kit every season and choose shirt sponsor for the team
- More realistic stadiums and crowd
- Be able to have more depth off the pitch with players and staff personal life. e.g if they get arrested or married
- J league should be on their aswell as Germany national team
- Charity and testimonial matches
- i know this is football MANAGER but i think u should be able to become other staff like a scout or directors etc.
- Should be able to develop the stadium easier because ive been playing the game for ages and only ever upgraded the ground once.Posted from

I think you should be able to make a fantasy team aswell as being real clubs.
I think clubs should have a realistic transfer budjet at the start of the season – for example manchester united should have a lot more than 10million to spend.

i would like the opportunity to pick what past international experience u had because u could have been past international with 1 cap but it doesnt make u a bad manager with no respect so that needs changed.
As for players and being out of control etc thats rediculous think of how many leagues this game has and how are u possibly supposed to have responses to all possible things it wont work and it would take away from the whole point of the game i feel .
i wouldnt mind being able to pick a post career history E.G. i played for x club for 5 years x club for 1 year etc .
def more team talks needed.
def more half full time talks needed.
def more press responses needed.
ability to rant during a post match interview even if u are not asked about it needed .
as for youth players i think who ever said a lot are really bad well in realistic terms a lot are really bad so that is fine if not too many wonder kids come through at completely average teams.Posted from

My suggestions for what they’re worth:
Manager Interaction – ‘Feels the two of you could be friends’ – what’s the point? The interaction could go beyond this surely? Player transfer negotiations etc
Stadium – To be more involved with Stadium development i.e. features such as dressing room facilities, corporate development etc.
Players – PLEASE get rid of those computer generated faces!! It detracts from the reality feel of the game and becomes more cartoon based. Either leave them blank (as in some cases) or how about your loyal fans sending in a photo of themselves to be added to the ‘made up’ players/coaches/scouts etc. That’d be quite a buzz when you find yourself…just a thought!
Transfers – You should be able to discuss targets with the board and ask them to go and negotiate for a players. After all this is what happens in reality.
3D engine – I for one don’t mind it. A more realistic stadium would be beneficial.
Cups & Championships – A little more fanfare when you’ve won something wouldn’t go wrong. An email saying how happy everyone is is ok but not really satisfying after a long hard season. How about a screen pop up showing the cup, or a team celebration shot, a screen showing you player of the year etc.
Player Motivation – Giving them a rest or a compliment is not enough. How about other motivational elements such as rewards from sponsors, team nights out etc. Additionally, when a player doesn’t settle in the area there isn’t enough you can do to appease the situation.
Board Monthly Feedback – It seems unfair that you are criticised for buying youth players for the youth team and they be classed as a poor piece of business by the fans. They are prospects for the future and the manager should be praised not criticised! Only first team players should be judged.
Post/Pre Match Talks – Either increase the variety of questions/responses or get rid!
Tactics – Team instructions prior to the game ie show on to weaker foot etc. There should be a setting to instruct all opposition players then remove individually if need be.

that’s a great idea! send out an advertising campaign asking all football manager players to send a normal photo of themselves, and each one can be applied to new youth players! would lvoe that.

maybe you could be a player/manager…
i think starting as a player then becoming a manager mite be wrong as it is a manager game.. but it could bae an option…Posted from

Hi,
This is one which is a little technical, and not massively important (but I think easy to implement).
The game starts in July, with a Database from October. I’d like to see players arrive at your club on the date they sign in real life, eg, Marseille sign Morientes on July 29, so he should sign in the game on July 29, thus missing pre-season friendlies and the chance to gel with the squad. This would be more important for deadline day deals, where you’ve already played up to 5 or 6 FM games with a player who wasn’t at the club in real life.

Hi,
I don’t know if anyone’s mentioned this yet but I would like to see actual audio commentary during the matches rather than just the wording along the bottom of the screen. I remember it being done on a manager game a few years ago where they had a match of the day style highlights programme you could watch after the game aswell.
I also agree with the opposition instructions one, you should be able to set an instruction for all members of the opposing side without having to click every one of them.
Still, looking forward to it’s release and will probably still buy it anyway!!Posted from

hi
i think sending a picture of your self in to make a youth player or a coach would be a great idea as long as they ar checke over and not stupid. i would be good to make your own kits aswell. I would also like the scottish highland league to be shown and the highland cup. with team shetland on it ecause they are in the highland cup. i also think you should completly change the contract system as u can offer a contract and it can be realy hard to get them. i love the idea of a cup popping up if you win it.Posted from

i would like to se lowers league special in Romania amd work permit to be agred more easy

I am always starting as a team in the conference north/south and then working my way up from there as a manager. i think you should be able to start as a reserve team manager or under 19 manager. that then opens up the possibility of first team manager to reserve/under 19 manager interaction! i think this would be propa bo and could earn your manager repuatation from this way!! i also think everyone should have a pic whether it a real pic or animated. i also think a huge improvement is needed in team talks and press conferences!! what does everyone else think?

well i wud lyk to be able to buy house,cars,etc.. having grlfrn…. and horse racing n casino… it wud b great to get a life outside the management which wil b more exciting….

I deffently think you should be able to chose a sponser and also be able to change the kit every season if you want too. Also the idea of having to be a under 19’s, reserve manager or an assistant manager first to build your rep makes sense because thats how most real life managers start out.
