FM 2011: A New Dawn

By: Dave | October 20th, 2010

sunrise Steam is telling me that the Football Manager 2011 demo has got 12  minutes and 22 seconds left to download. That’s 12 minutes and 22  seconds until my life has a functioning human, for the next few days at  least, is over. I wouldn’t say I’m an FM obsessive. It’s more of a need. A hunger for more trophies, an uncomfortableness when I haven’t played for a few days that has led me to me clocking up over 1000 hours on FM 2010.

Anyway, this is just a quick post to introduce myself to the site, and to explain what I’ll be doing.

My name is Dave, and I’ll be writing features about the forthcoming game. This will include articles on various tactics and strategies for playing FM, on the various new features in the game as well as lists of “top players in so-and-so division”. In other words, the sort of thing that doesn’t necessarily come up in career posts, such as the one to be started by Max, but that still makes for valuable reading about the game.

If you have any requests about features, players or teams you’d like me to write about, all you have to do is ask in the comments section below and I’ll do my best. When I’m not leading Kettering Town to Champions League glory that is…

Impressed by the Demo. Ohh this is less frustrating than Fm 2010. Very lil bugs to report as of now.

Loving the Interaction feature in the game. Ah those agents are nasty.

    So far so good.

Very impressed by the demo so far, Dhaw is right, the conversation feature is fantastic, adds much needed freshness to interaction with everyone in the game world. The 3D engine has also been much improved.

Edward, if you’re still having problems, try closing down every non essential internet program running (e.g. video streaming), and if possible plug directly into your router for fastest speeds.

Who is everyone being on the demo?

Hi all, if anyone would like to takeover the defunct LLM Blog from me, I’d appreciate it. Unfortunately I’m not is a position to continue the blog.

I’d be tempted with my Kettering team, guessing we have to sort it out with the editor?

Definitely happy with the whole player interaction and agent features.

Not quite sure what happened on my current Reading game; had agreed a fee with a club for a ‘keeper, went to the contract process but couldn’t afford their demands, so asked the board for more wages, they agreed. I cancelled the contract talks so I could continue and get my extra wages, yet now there’s no ‘Make An Offer’ option on the player. Is that a regular thing now? Once you cancel contract talks you can’t sign the player?

@Ben: You have continued the game and there’s still no ‘Make an Offer’ button? I have had a couple of times where I’ve cancelled contract negotiations and then when I’ve tried to sign them later on in the window they’re not interested in talking to me, don’t think I’ve had your scenario as far as I can remember, I’ll have a look.

Could not run the demo install after downloading it, but not sure if I can be bothered till the final version is out, half a season will be only 1-2 days of playing time for me max.

Really enjoying FM2010 still though, specially as just been hired as England manager and have won 6 out of 6, scoring 27 goals, conceeding 2.

4-2-3-1 works like a charm in this one.

    Playing with Roma.

Yep I think after the World Cup 4-2-3-1 has become the de facto formation for many teams and the match engine reflects this.
I’ve been using this for Newcastle with one orthodox winger and the other wide man cutting inside, works fairly well although as I am Newcastle for every 2-1 against Blackburn there’s a 3-0 battering by Liverpool.
