Our First Stumble
By: Daryl |
It was all going so well under the new democratic regime, but we’ve officially had our first stumble.
So now’s the time for some serious debate.
But first let me tell you what happened…
Captain Fantastic
By: Daryl |
As you know, Fabricio Coloccini is out for two to three months with some sort of old man hip injury. There seemed to be some sort of agreement that no replacement was needed, so Andriy Rusol stepped in to replace the frizzy haired Argentinean/Argentine (is there a correct term for someone from Argentina?)
One thing I didn’t consider until right at kickoff was that Colo was my captain. Captain Colo.
Which means that while Captain Colo is out, Vice-Captain Pavel Pogrebnyak will wear the magic armband (it’s not really magic, but don’t tell The Pog). It went badly, very very badly…
Time Travel is Dangerous

Apologies for the delay. But I have a good excuse. I’ve been travelling through time.
Talking Tactics Before a Trip to Old Trafford
By: Daryl |
The first game under the new regime went very smoothly. But that was away to Watford in the FA Cup Third Round. Our next game is a trip to Old Trafford to face Man Utd in the Prem.
But don’t be too scared. This isn’t Fergie’s Man Utd. It’s January 2012 and the old man has retired (his final game was the 2011 Champions League Final defeat to Liverpool, which is likely the exact opposite of how he wanted to go.)
The new man in charge at Old Trafford is none other than Juande Ramos.
Here’s the team he put out vs Man City in their last league game:
Football Manager is Distracting…

So Far, So Good
By: Daryl |
I was more than a little nervous abut this first game played under the new democratic regime.
A trip to Watford in the FA Cup 3rd Round looks easy on paper, but defeat would have been an absolute disaster.
Let’s Get to Work
By: Daryl |
First of all, thanks for all the kind words on the last post. I was more than a little surprised by that to be honest.
Second, welcome to the management team! The new plan is to put all major decisions up for debate here on the blog. We’ll use a combination of questions, options, discussions, polls and everything else. I’m not 100% sure how this is going to work, but it’s going to be fun finding out.
Do You Want To Take Over My Newcastle Team?
By: Daryl |
I’ve been struggling to find time to keep my Newcastle game going. Hence the lack of recent updates. If this happened in the real world, I’d definitely be fired and replaced. And maybe that’s how it should work on FM Offsde.
So… if anyone out there is
1. Interested in taking over my Newcastle game, and
2. Capable of maintaining this blog
Then I’ll happily put my save game on a little flash drive and post it to you. Anywhere in the world.
If you’re interested, please send an email to daryl[at]theoffside[dot]com with “Why Aye Man” in the subject line.
Wobbly Wheels on the Title Wagon
By: Daryl |
That image might be a bit dramatic, but the wheels on my possible title wagon have definitely gone a bit wobbly.
Last time I posted my Newcastle team was sitting pretty at the top of the Prem, with 53% of those who voted believing my team had the necessaries to go for a title.
Three games later and I’m sitting in third, behind both Man City and Arsenal. Here’s what happened:
What Would You Like to See in Football Manager 2010?
By: Daryl |
No recent progress on my Newcastle game (and possible (?) title challenge) but I’ve found myself thinking about Football Manager 2010 a lot lately.
It’s mostly Vitaliy Mokosiy’s and Stephen Darwin’s fault, as they respectively wrote an Football Manager 2010 Features we Expect on TFM and an FM2010 Wishlist over on SoccerLens recently and got me thinking about the next edition of this game we all know have unhealthy addictive relationships with love.
